Vienna is a quaint and cozy town in the northeastern section of Virginia. It has a population of only around 16,000 residents, which helps contributes to its small-town ambiance and charm. The Potomac River is located just five miles away, and the bustling city of Washington, D.C. is within 12 miles. Due to its location, Vienna offers all the comforting aspects of a small community plus all the advantages of being near a metropolitan city. The annual Holiday Stroll celebration transforms the town into a magical community as most everyone in the town gathers to celebrate the holiday season. This event is a great place to entertain friends and family and those out of town guests who dropped in a few days before Thanksgiving and decided to 'bless' you with their constant chatter and presence even longer!!

Interesting Facts and Places to Visit

After listening to your out of town guests brag on every aspect of their lives ad infinitum, it's time for you to do a little boasting of your own. Tell them that in 2013, Vienna was voted number three on the list of "The 100 Best Places to Live in the United States" by CNN Money Magazine. This is partially due to the unique landscaping that makes this picturesque town a great place to walk to the town green, which is the site for many community events. There is also a scenic bike path and park that runs across the old railroad in the center of town. Many citizens take advantage of the trails to enjoy some fresh air and exercise. The downtown area has unique stores that offer one-of-a-kind purchases and a variety of eateries that are sure to delight any palate.

A couple of the points of interest in or near Vienna that are popular with the locals and tourists are the Freeman Store and Museum and the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. These are some entertaining places to visit if you, your guests, and all your kiddos are suffering from cabin fever due to the chilly temps. There is also the nearby Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts which showcases the areas cultural and natural resources. Another notable place to visit is the Great Falls Park.

The Holiday Stroll Information

The Holiday Stroll is on November 27, 2017 from 6 p.m until 9 p.m. This is a free event and a great place to wish your neighbors and acquaintances a joyful holiday season as you admire the cheery sights and sounds along the festive walkways. You and your family and friends can stroll down the gaily lit streets decorated with beautiful holiday lights and decor and shop at the stores that are open late specifically for the event.

The fun begins on Lawyers Road and continues to Mill Street where the mayor starts up the festivities by lighting the Holiday Tree set up near the historic Freeman House and Museum. Jolly ole Santa arrives on a glistening red fire truck to the delight of the children and poses for pictures with them. There are bonfire stations for roasting marshmallows, hot chocolate, apple cider and many more beverages are available for quenching your thirst. Christmas music performed by various groups floats through the air as you ride horse-drawn carriages or visit the festively decorated red caboose at the train station. Children will laugh with glee as they pet the furry creatures at the petting zoo. Stroll participants can join their friends in singing Christmas carols or creating holiday crafts. The magical evening is a special time for people of all ages to greet friends old and new and to share the joys and spiritual blessings of the holiday season. It is one of the many reasons that Vienna is the perfect place to call home.
